Age Groups Explained

Understanding the structure and where your player fits

The U in an age group listing stands for under, meaning a child needs to be under that age on January 1st of a particular year. For example, a U12 player would have to be under 12 years of age on January 1st of a year.

Youth: U11 & Older

Ages

CVSC offers competitive programs for boys and girls in the U11 through U19 age groups.

Tryouts

Tryouts are held every May. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the loop on when tryout details are announced. If you’d prefer to be notified by email when our next tryouts are scheduled, use this form.

Cost

See the Program Overview page for costs including details such as uniform costs, player fees, what the fees cover, and how the cost compares to other leagues and clubs.

Format & Rules

U11 & U12

  • 9 v 9

  • Smaller field and goals than older age groups.

  • Size 4 ball.

  • 30 minute halves.

  • No heading allowed.

U13 & Older

  • 11 v 11

  • Standard field and goals.

  • Size 5 ball.

  • 35 to 45 minute halves depending on ages.

U11 – U14 Seasons

Summer (June – August)

  • Two 1.5-hour practices per week in or near Newberg. Days/times are determined by the coach and field availability.

  • Tournaments if agreed-upon by coaches/families at an extra cost.

  • Note that schedules are flexible in the summer to accommodate family vacations, etc.

Fall (September – October)

  • Two 1.5-hour practices per week in or near Newberg.

  • Games on weekends at various locations, generally in the Portland area but can be further away, especially for teams at higher competition levels.

Winter (December – January)

  • Optional Winter Academy which is an off-season clinic hosted by CVSC.

Spring (March – April)

  • Two 1.5-hour practices per week in or near Newberg.

  • Games on weekends.

U15 & Older Seasons

Summer (June – August)

  • Two 1.5-hour practices per week in or near Newberg. Days/times are determined by the coach and field availability.

  • Tournaments if agreed-upon by coaches/families at an extra cost.

  • Note that schedules are flexible in the summer to accommodate family vacations, etc.

Fall (September – October)

  • Most players participate in their high school programs.

Winter/Spring (December – March)

  • Two 1.5-hour practices per week in or near Newberg.

  • Games on weekends staring in January at various locations, generally in the Portland area but can be further away, especially for teams at higher competition levels.

Junior: U10 & Younger

  • Size 4 ball.

  • 25 minute halves.

  • No heading, slide-tackling, or goalkeeper punting is allowed.

  • Incorporates build-out line for offsides

Fall (September – October)

  • Games on Sundays at Wilsonville High School.

Winter (December – January)

  • Optional Winter Academy which is an off-season clinic hosted by CVSC.

Spring (March – April)

  • Two 1-hour practices per week in or near Newberg.

  • Games on Sundays at Liberty High School.
